The Political Standoff Continues

October 1st, 2013 was the first time in 17 years the government has mandated their federal employees to be furloughed. As of right now, it is too early to tell how long this standoff between the Republicans and Democrats in congress will last.

President Barack Obama mentioned to news reporters he and the rest of the democrats are willing to talk with the republicans about Obama Care, but will not negotiate terms until the government has been funded once again. News reporters mention this does not look promising due to each party’s personal agendas and established trust.

Today the National Institute of Health reports, “73%, or about 3/4ths of their staff, has been furloughed”. This means about “200 patients per week will not be seen or treated. 30 of these patients include children”.

The questions on everybody’s mind is “how long will this standoff last” and “who are the ones really being hurt from the disagreeing political parties?”
